Golden Chow Mein Restaurant in Saint Paul

This was amazing! The woman at the front was by far the best part (loud, friendly, engaging), but the food wass plentiful, flavorful, and a great value and the ambiance is definitely old W 7th Street! Good fortune cookies too! We were here on Christmas Eve so they had a ton of phone calls/to-go orders. Still got our food and beverages fast.

A great St. Paul find along Seventh Street. Golden Chow Mein is old school Chinese restaurant with made to order food that is simply delicious and flavorful. While the dining room is sparse the price is right. I will definitely be back!

My Chinese lady is the best food I have had. Went there years ago because I lived in the neighborhood and still go back. Right eating in is tricky because she has so much take out. And yes especially during mealtime expect you order to take longer, but it is worth the wait. I recommend lo mein, egg foo young, egg rolls and chicken wings. So good

We have grabbed take out at this little spot for years. We almost always order ma pao tofu and shrimp in lobster sauce. The food is delicious! We have also enjoyed their sesame chicken. Yum!! I have never had a problem finding parking on the street. The place itself is drab and not inspiring, but the food we have had has been consistently top notch.

Good Chinese food in a quaint ancient building. I had not had chow mein since that horrible Chung King canned stuff. Ok, real fresh cooked chow mein still is not that great, but we got combination plates and egg rolls so we had plenty to eat. Egg rolls, sweet and sour pork, egg foo yong, and stir fried rice all very good. Hard to pay the check at the register for all the carry out orders taking priority. Still a great experience.

It was as good as the owner said it would be. Better that any place in Woodbury!! She was right, the Chicken Egg-foo young was amazing.

I've been eating their great food since I lived in the neighborhood and was a young (single) man in my 20's back in the 1980s. I turned my future wife on to their food, and now married with an adult daughter, I moved 25 miles away in the mid 90's and still drive across town to get their Take Out food-to-go. Always pleasant service and very appreciative that I am still a loyal customer after 35 years!!! We can't recommend Golden Chow Mein enough!

I've lived in the neighborhood for over a decade and this is the first time I've stopped in. I wish it would have "found" the place sooner. Front end run by a no-nonsense yet incredibly welcoming and personable lady. Everyone in our party loved their meal. The spring rolls and fried noodles were my favorite. The owner is a delicious cook.

Wasn't expecting much after seeing the photos here but was pleasantly surprised. Sure this isn't very authentic, but it's cheap and tasty and our server was very friendly which really helped sell the experience. My friend had the chow mein, i had the beef and cashew and we shared some egg rolls. The meat tasted fresh and the vegetables were perfectly stir fried. My only issue was the flavors were a little mild, but at least they weren't overdone and salty like some cheap places! Would come again!

It's was okay. Their chicken chow main dish is pretty good and their everything lo main dish is great! For a small Chinese restaurant, I think it's worth the try.

I am giving the food 5 stars, not the old building. There are tables, but a lot of their business is take out. In my opinion, ***they have the best chicken wings in the Twin Cities.*** If they ever had a food stand at the MN State Fair, they could retire early off their chicken wings. The sauce in their pepper steak with the beef, green peppers, and onions is delicious. I always order hot tea with my lunch. It is not watered down like a lot of places.

Rice was good ...pork wontons tasted burnt and the chicken was good ..not sure what that gravy stuff is thats comes with the combination platters...food was not really worth the price ..

I love the barbecue pork fried rice and orange chicken from Golden Chow Mein. Great service as well.

1st time here the food was great! We ordered Cantonese shrimp, chop suey, egg rolls, and chicken wings. 10s all around the board. But besides the food the lady that works here is a riot! Come just to see her! No lie thank me later.

Awesome American Chinese food! The prices are low, ingredients fresh, and portions quite large. Cream cheese wontons were crisp and not overly stuffed, sweet and sour shrimp was delicious, and the fried rice was jam packed with pork, egg, and green onion. Glad to have a solid take out option close to home.

I've been eating here since I was a kid. As a adult I drive 40 minutes round trip to pick it up. I prefer the food here over the Chinese food restaurants nearby my house. When you divide the cost over the number of meals it's not much more expensive than fast food. Everytime I pick up my order it's ready on time, which seems to always be 15 minutes. Full disclosure I always get the same order. I can only honestly say I like the sesame chicken, chicken fried rice, eggrolls, and wontons.
